Susan Fox, M.S., L.Ac., FABORM
A specialist in Reproductive Medicine, Susan combines evidence-based research protocols with customized Chinese Medicine diagnosis and treatment principles to treat challenges of infertility, as well as pregnancy, post-partum, peri-menopause and menopause.
In treating Cognitive Decline, Susan implements protocols by Dr. Dale Bredesen, identifying five sub-types of and individuated treatments for Alzheimer’s Disease. She applies these treatment protocols to early cognitive decline associated with peri-menopause, menopause and other changes that adversely affect brain health.
Susan has been studying Functional Medicine for over a decade, and implements laboratory and other diagnostic testing. A healthy microbiome and gut health is integral to all health; therefore, Susan works to ensure that a patient’s detoxification systems are functioning optimally, and tailors protocols to address a variety of Digestive Complaints.
Susan earned her Master’s Degree at Meiji College of Oriental Medicine in Berkeley, California.

Rachel Schaefer LAc FABORM
Rachel Schaefer LAc FABORM is a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist in the State of California. She is also a National Diplomate of Oriental Medicine and specializes in Endocrinology, Women’s Health and Fertility. She received her BS in Biology from Mills College in Oakland, California, and a four year Master of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Five Branches Institute in Santa Cruz, California. To match her belief that “Food is Medicine,” Rachel also completed a two year apprenticeship in Nutritional Functional medicine. Her clinical style reflects this and patients are provided personalized nutritional strategies.
Rachel is an ABORM fellow, reflecting years of specialized study, clinical work and board assessment on integrative reproductive medicine. She is well versed in the integrative care of fertility patients and works closely with local reproductive clinics where indicated. Rachel has studied at two renowned Chinese Universities– in Hangzhou and Chengdu. While there, she followed a specific course on treatment of Diabetes and blood sugar regulation and topics in women's health. She has lectured on treatment of the endocrine system via lifestyle and dietary practices, thus returning patients to the helm of their well being. She is an expert in the treatment of infertility and endocrine disturbance, such as PCOS.
Rachel has worked in various capacities clinically. She began her clinical work sharing a holistic practice with a family practice MD thus sharpening a background in western medicine and lab review. She has served on faculty at Five Branches University, a Chinese Medical School. She was a founding member of the program for Clinical Excellence in Fertility, a select professional group organized by best selling author, Dr. Randine Lewis. She has been on staff at Pacific Fertility Center, one of the leading reproductive medicine clinics in the U.S. and continues her tenure with Mama Lounge in San Francisco supporting couples in their quest towards parenting and throughout pregnancy. She ran her own integrative clinics in the peninsula and San Francisco for over a decade. She is honored to bring her unique style of integrative medicine to Balance Restored.
Andrew Rader, M.S., L.Ac.
Andrew treats every Friday from 2pm-6pm. Acupuncture Lounge offers acupuncture treatments at deeply discounted pricing in a small group setting. Andrew treats acute and chronic pain anywhere in the body using points from knees to toes, elbows to fingers, ears and head. He has been in practice for nearly 30 years using this form of treatment.
Andrew received his BS in Biochemistry from UC Berkeley and his MS from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He completed an internship at the China -Japan Friendship Hospital in Beijing. Andrew has been in private practice since 1988.
